On behalf of AWG "Rennsteig" Suhl the claddings and entrances of the multistory living buildings at Friedrich-König-Str. 11 and 17 were completely redesigned. Both houses are part of a complex out of four equal buildings, shaping the significant city center together with the Hotel Mercure highrise.

Creative and energetic aspects were equally important when deciding for the rearrangement of the facade. Energetic losses reduce lastingly through additional mineral insulation of the facade.

The buildings' distinctive shape is formed by the structure of the facades (cornices, pilaster strips and aligning of the fiber cement slab cladding) together with their color scheme.

Originally the entrances of the houses were placed 1.40m above the surrounding area. A barrier-free access route did not exist. Leveling the entrances with the surrounding land enabled the creation of a spacious and open entrance hall and also made "Servicewohnen" – a new type of living – possible, which was aspired by the client. To realize this, existing elevators had to be lengthened downwards. Today the new entrance zone and the redesigned outdoor plant are part of social contacts for the mostly elder residents, who accept them well.
